Waikato Summer 2016

The Huka Falls of the Waikato river.

The Huka Falls of the Waikato river. Waikato means “flowing water” in the Maori language (native people of New Zealand).

This week you can hear a new feature about amazing facts about Lyndhurst – such as the gardening club and what children think of the new lunch hall.

We also talk about what children have been learning in class – place value and the human body and things you shouldn’t be afraid of. Finally, we made a story together titled “A Girl Called Molly” and played a quick game of 21 Questions – can you guess what the animal is?

Hudson Spring 2016

The Hudson River flows through New York. There are many industries located along the Hudson, and they dump their waste into the waters of the Hudson thus polluting it. The government has taken action and passed laws to stop this pollution.

This week’s class broadcast by Hudson (year 4) is all about stories, poems and fables. First, listen to the children read the poem Girl and a Tree by Carol Ann Duffy (you can also read it here) and then write their own stories.

Later on the children play a game of 21 Questions (can you try to guess the animal before they do?), talk about Miyazaki’s film Spirited Away and read two of Aesop’s Fables. And finally, listen to Mr. Sheffield’s choice Desert Island Disc.
